Back in Business

We FINALLY got our internet set up. It has been all but boring in our new apartment. I have been watching a lot of movies. Sadly we don't get Netflix here because that would be awesome. But  what we Cole did get for his birthday was a new Xbox and a TV so I get to play video games while he is at work. What I do love to do while he is at work is baking! I have been baking cookies and we have been eating them (we being mostly Cole) non stop. It has been hard to do so because we have no measuring cups. I have to eyeball everything, but luckily I am good at it. Also, I know what I want for Christmas, Grandma Sally if you are reading this and are able to do so I would like you to make me an apron  like that snowman one that you have at my parents house. Whenever I have that on I feel like I have your "zen" with me and I bake so much better.

Today is Cole's birthday! He is 27! That sounds so crazy, because that means he is almost 30. I hope that he likes that cake I made him because he is a better decorator of cakes than I am on year he made me a ladybug cake, it was beautiful. I am going to keep it simple. CRAP I just realized that we doing have any candles! I hope he will be okay... I mean it's great and all that I now can drive in Germany I just don't have a car to go to the store and get candles. Well I am sure there will be more to tell and pictures to come of Cole.

Adventure: Trier

Let's start on Thursday, everything was nice it was a very brisk morning and I decided I would go for a run. It felt good to run, mostly because it had been so long since I had done any type of exercise. Everything was going well, then all the sudden POP! I rolled my ankle off the curb while crossing the street and there was a loud sound, it sounded like a knuckle pop so I figure, I had just sprained my ankle, and probably hyper extended the muscle since it stung all the way up the side of my leg. Ok, here is the best part, I was on the complete opposite side of the base! So I had to walk a good mile to 2 miles back to the hotel. So I started walking trying not to look like a cripple walking with a huge limp but as I started going something was hitting my foot. So I looked down as I walked and saw the the bottom part of my shoe was just barely hanging on. I was like crap, Friday Cole and I were going to Trier and I now had not only a sprained ankle but also now walking shoes!

I spent the rest of the day observing RICE for those of you that know, pretty much doing nothing but elevating my ankle and keeping ice on it and wrapping it. Cole came back from work happy for the next day then he looked down and was like NO! So I told him the story, and then he left. He then returned with NEW SHOES! They are super cute and perfect. I was totally ready for the trip on Friday!

Friday morning came YAY!! We were both ready for this. We were going with a group which was nice. I had no idea what was in store. First was a bus ride, then a train ride, then a lot of walking. Now, is my attempt to bring you pictures!

street performers

Trier

Fountain that is older than the United States.

Cathedral

Inside the Cathedral

These are tombs.

Organ

This is dated 1354 AD.

It's hard to see but this is a picture of a box that contains a box which contains another box which contains what this claim to be the Garments of Christ. Not sure if they are really in there.

Relics

Not sure if this is legit or not but this is one of the nail they used when they crucified Christ.

Really old Bibles

Parliament

Garden

Pink Building

Roman bath house

There are only 7 of these in the world these were built to show that there were foot soldiers at the ready so behave.

Really cool tunnels

This has 26 letters and is one word. Yes it mean reconstruction.

This is a size of a small pizza it was bigger than the plate it was on. It was only 5 euros at this Italian place super good and yes I ordered in Italian!!! Okay Spanish but hey he understood me!

Delicious pasta in Alfredo sauce with bacon. Go Cole.

On the bus ready to start the day.

This is the train station in Speicher. Cute.

There just so happened to be ruins of a castle on our way to Trier.

I ordered a pastry in German! That's right awesomeness engaged! This was a croissant filled with chocolate. Mmm

This is the best orange juice in the world!! It is a really dark orange color but the oranges are what we would call organic (which is normal in Germany) and they squeezed every last drop out of the orange.

Cool buildings

Awesome fountains

Black Gate from the Roman Empire

Cute Hotel

There were the most beautiful flowers in so many different colors.

Standing underneath the Black Gate entrance where their enemies would charge in and a giant iron gate would fall behind them and then hot tar would be dropped on them and they would die...

Each of the stones were held together by iron rods, which we found interesting.

Spiral staircase

These were carved into the walls.

They were different Saints.

View from the top

Cole was intrigued.

Having fun

hi

Amazing archway.

This is think was built back in 180 AD.

On the bottom right of the picture is a door, the Floating Door. It is about 15 feet in the air. Way back when 3 monks lived there to stay alive when someone would try to attack they would drop hot water or tar on to them. There was only one way in, from a drop ladder so there was always one person there at a time.

Had to get another liter of the juice it was so good felt like I was eating an orange only in liquid form.
